Waiting On Wednesday - Britney #9

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine.

This week's pick is:

The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus, #5)The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan
Publication Date: October 7, 2014
Summary: Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen-all of them-and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood-the blood of Olympus-in order to wake.
The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Partheons to use a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belong back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.
The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no
other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes,
it is game over.

Why I'm Waiting:
I cannot wait to see how this series is going to end.

Jess' Review of The Secrets of Lily Graves

The Secrets of Lily Graves by Sarah Strohmeyer
Publication Date: May 13, 2014
Summary: With the intrigue of Pretty Little Liars and plenty of romance, bestselling author Sarah Strohmeyer weaves a story of secrets and lies - set in a funeral parlor.

Growing up in a house of female morticians, Lily Graves knows all about buried secrets. She knows that perfect senior-class president Erin Donohue isn't what she seems. She knows why Erin's ex-boyfriend, hot football player Matt Houser, broke up with her. And she also knows that, even though she says she and Matt are just friends, there is something brewing between them - something Erin definitely did not like.

But secrets, even ones that are long buried, have a way of returning to haunt their keeper.

So when Erin is found dead the day after attacking Lily in a jealous rage, Lily and Matt's safe little lives, and the lives of everyone in their town of Potsdam, begin to unravel. And their relationship - which grew from innocent after-school tutoring sessions to late-night clandestine rendezvous - makes them both suspects.

As her world crumbles around her, Lily must figure out the difference between truth and deception, genuine love and a web of lies. And she must do it quickly, before the killer claims another victim.

My Rating: 5/5 Stars

My Review: I loved this book. It was actually pretty slow in the beginning for me and I really thought I was going to end up hating it, but it really delivered. About halfway through the book, I had a serious suspicion about who the killer actually was and I was right! There is a giant twist at the end, which I of course won't spoil, but it is well worth the read. There is mystery, romance, drama, and humor. It was a pretty fast read for me but I enjoyed every second of it and would highly recommend this book to anyone, especially those interested in mysteries.

The Kindgdom of Morrigan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can't abide. Like having to marry someone shes' never met to secure a political alliance.
Fed up and read for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets-secrets that may unravel her world-even as she feels herself falling in love.

My Rating; 5/5 STARS - ALL OF THE STARS

My Review: This was the greatest book ever. I loved everything about it, from the start to the finish. Of course there were some sad parts in this book that I did tear up about. It was part adventure, part action, part romance, and part mystery. The mystery aspect was so interesting because we know that one of the boys is an assassin and that one is the prince that Mia was supposed to marry but we don't know which boy is which and have to guess at it for most of the book. When we do finally find out who is who some real bad stuff starts to go down. Lia is totally a badass character though, and I love her so much. I'm so excited for the next book and to see what is possibly going to happen after the way this book ended.

Quote I highly enjoyed: "If you were so foolish as to lay one of your lecherous fingers on me I fear we'd both regret it. It would ruin the festivities for everyone here, because I'd slice away the nearest thing to me, no matter how small." I looked directly at his crotch, then turned the knife in my hands as if I was inspecting it.  Page. 247

Britney's Review of If I Stay

If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Publication Date: January 1, 2009
Summary: The critically acclaimed, bestselling novel from Gayle Forman, author of Where She Went, Just One Day, and Just One Year
In a blink of an eyes everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident, she can only recall what happened afterwards, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces-to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make. Heartwrenchingly beautiful, this will change the way you look at life, love and family.

My Rating: 5/5 Stars

My Review: One of the greatest, most emotional books I have ever read. It was so beautiful and so heartbreaking all in one. I enjoyed that we got to see Mia after the accident as she sees all the people visiting her, and trying to figure out if she wants to stay or not but I also enjoyed seeing the past. Learning about all her family and friends and the relationships they all have with one another. The relationships in this books were all so real, and I loved every single one of them. I was rooting for Mia to stay, but it was easy to understand why she might not want to; she did lose nearly all her family in a single day. It was amazing that this all took place in one day (and the flashbacks) but made me feel so much emotion. I would tell every single person to read this book. It really made me appreciate and think about all that I have, and all the people that I love.

A quote that I loved: "Don't you doubt for a second that she can hear you," she tells them. "She's aware of everything that's going on." She stands there with her hands on her hips. I can almost picture her snapping gum. Gran and Gramps stare at her, lapping up what she's telling them. "You might think that the doctors or nurses or all this is running the show," she says, gesturing to the wall of medical equipment. "Nuh-uh. She's running the show. Maybe she's biding her time. So you talk to her. You tell her to take all the time seh needs but to come on back. You're waiting for her."

Britney's Review of Attachments

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
Publication Date: April 14. 2011
Summary: "Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you..."
Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.
Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe that this is his job now-reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers-not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke. When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.
By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.
What would he say...?

My Rating: 4/Stars.

My Review: This was my very first Rainbow Rowell book I have read, and she definitely lived up to all the hype she has surrounding her. I don't read many adult books at all, so I wasn't quite sure how well I would enjoy this book. The concept just sounded to good to pass up though, and I had to borrow it from my library so I could finally read it. This book was just as funny as I expected. I highly enjoyed all the characters involved, and was rooting for them all. There were some sad parts to this books, that I wasn't quite expecting, but they just made the book that much better. I loved the ending to pieces, it was so perfect in my opinion. This was also a fast read, since part of it was told in emails. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

This week's pick is:

The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Publication Date: November 4, 2014
Summary: Mara Dyer wants to believe there's more to the lies she's been told. There is.
She doesn't stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead. She should.
She never had to imagine how far she would go for vengeance. She will now. Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer's story. Retribution has arrived.

Why I'm Waiting: I have been not so patiently waiting for this book since I finished the second one. The book that ended in one of the most awful cliffhangers I could ever imagine. This book has been pushed back so many times, and I just want to read it already!

Jess' Review of The Thousand Dollar Tan Line

The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham
Publication Date: March 25th, 2014
Summary: The first book in an original mystery series featuring twenty-eight-year-old Veronica Mars, back in action after the events of Veronica Mars: The Movie. With the help of old friends - Logan Echolls, Mac Mackenzie, Wallace Fennel, and even Dick Casablancas - Veronica is ready to take on Neptune's darkest cases with her trademark sass and smarts.

My Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

My Review: I am a huge Veronica Mars fan. I loved the show, the movie and definitely this book. I was excited when I heard that the series would be continuing into this book and it was nice to see what took place after the movie ended. Rob Thomas' writing certainly has it's own distinct feel and this book definitely has that same feel. I could hear Veronica's voice throughout the whole story. Even the mystery itself was interesting - there were countless twists and turns. I genuinely was surprised by how the mystery ended - it's definitely a twist! My only complaint is that I wish there was more Logan in this story. He's my favorite Veronica Mars character and, while I understand that he wasn't able to be present for the book (I'm not gonna say why - I don't want to spoil the ending of the movie for those who haven't seen it), it still would have been nice to see a little more of that flawless Veronica/Logan chemistry throughout.
